Description

During the summer of 2015 I was assigned to be the student attorney on a case at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic that involved a very sick woman facing very serious criminal charges. Her case was one that began at the State level and moved into Federal territory when she was unable to stay sober on her own. This case was my introduction into the real-life mechanics of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and the real-life impact it has on defendants. I am amazed at the strength my client showed throughout the process and the transformation I saw her go through as she waited for her fate to be decided. This case an experience that helped cement my desire to practice criminal defense. My client is a human being who suffered more than any person should be expected to survive and I felt honored to guide her through such a difficult process.
